Welcome to St Nicolas’ School and the Parent Staff Association (PSA). As parents of children at the School, we are all automatically members of our PSA.
Our PSA is a registered charity, and our objective is to advance the education of the pupils of the school, in particular by developing effective relationships between staff, parents and others associated with the school, and by funding school activities, facilities and equipment. Our main task is to organise social and fundraising events to meet these objectives. The Headteacher is actively involved in the PSA, and both her and her team are great and enthusiastic supporters of all our activities. We have regular PSA meetings and social events for parents – keep an eye on the PSA boards and on Facebook to find out when and do come and join us.
The Christmas and May Fairs are the highlights of the year, but we also run an annual Quiz Night, termly cake sales, sponsored events and clothing collections/sales amongst other things. In the 2015/16 academic year, we raise around £10,000 annually for a school of just four classes, which reflects the enthusiasm and support of our parents and the staff.
The following are just some of the activities, items and equipment that the PSA has recently funded:
The playground pirate ship
The large musical instruments for the playground
A sand pit and accessories for the playground quiet zone
12 months’ access to purple mash and twinkl online educational packages
A termly budget of £100 per class to spend on “luxuries” such as craft items and stationery
Subsidies for whole school trips to places such an aquarium and Hobbledown Farm
Subsidies for events for the children such as the Mid-Winter and Spring parties and the annual Year 2 trip to the panto
In your welcome pack, you will find a ‘Parents and Carers details’ form where you can share your email address and telephone number with the school and the PSA. If you ‘opt in’ by ticking the relevant boxes then the PSA can use your details to contact you with details of events, activities and volunteering opportunities, often through your ‘Class Rep’. If you select ‘Yes’ to being added to the ‘Class Lists’ then the PSA secretary will add your information to the contact lists which are sent out to all parents who have consented to sharing details – these contacts lists are really useful for writing Christmas cards and for getting in touch with other parents such as to arrange playdates and to reply to party invites.
Whether it is becoming an elected member, volunteering at an event, attending events or by making donations, as parents we all have a role we can play within the PSA, and we always welcome new people and new ideas. However you choose to get involved, we hope you will enjoy becoming part of the PSA and we looking forward to welcoming you and your family to our small, friendly community at St Nics.
