At the end of the Reception Year, children are assessed against Early Learning Goals (ELGs) in seven different areas. Until they meet the ELG for an area they are said to be working at an 'emerging' level. When they meet the ELG they have reached the 'expected' level. If they are showing progress beyond the ELG, they are assessed as 'exceeding'. Throughout the year we look at your children to assess the level they are working at. We use a set of criteria, based on the age of the child, to help us make this judgement and to plan activities to ensure the children progress. The ages and stages are attached- we hope this helps you to understand better the way your child learns at school.
