Caring about Learning

Mathematics

In the Foundation Stage, maths is about children learning to count reliably, beginning to understand how to add as well as concepts such as doubling, halving and sharing. Children begin to use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money, and to compare quantities and objects They begin to recognise, create and describe patterns, and to use mathematical language to describe the characteristics of everyday objects and shapes.

Learning is delivered through hands-on practical activities which allow children to apply their skills in contexts that are meaningful to them.
