Physical Education

The PE curriculum develops children’s physical skills and all-round confidence. It provides opportunities for creativity and challenge, promotes positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles, and develops teamwork. We encourage children to build on their natural enthusiasm for movement, using it to explore and develop their abilities, and begin a lifelong choice about keeping fit. PE involves an indoor and outdoor curriculum, involving gymnastics, dance and games. The children have opportunities to work individually, in pairs, small groups and larger teams. By watching and experimenting, and by evaluating their own performances and those of others, they develop their skills in movement and co-ordination, and enjoy expressing and testing themselves in a variety of situations. Specific skills taught to the children include travelling with, sending and receiving a ball, tactics within games, using space safely, travelling on floor level and on apparatus, taking off, landing and balancing.
